About

Toninho Horta's album "From Ton To Tom: A Tribute To Tom Jobim" (also known as "To Jobim With Love") is a bossa nova tribute to the legendary Tom Jobim. The album showcases Horta's skills as a guitarist, vocalist, arranger, and conductor, bringing Jobim's music to life with gorgeous arrangements. It features a mix of Brazilian and non-Brazilian jazz musicians and was recorded in New York City in 1998. The album includes interpretations of Jobim classics like "Água de Beber," "Desafinado," and "The Girl from Ipanema," as well as original compositions by Horta, including the title track "From Ton To Tom (Silent Song)". Personnel

Significance

The album was released to coincide with the 50th Anniversary of Bossa Nova. Horta's intention was to honor Jobim's musical genius, employing his skills to bring Jobim's music to life with arrangements and delivery similar to Jobim's style.

The song "From Ton to Tom" is a play on words, referencing both the musical term "ton" and Tom Jobim's nickname, as both share the same pronunciation in Brazilian Portuguese. Horta began writing the song soon after Jobim's death in 1994.
