It includes an essay by music journalist Charles Waring and input from Roberta Flack, Leroy Hutson, Arif Mardin, and Jerry Wexler. The collection contains selections from his three studio albums, *Everything Is Everything* (1970), *Donny Hathaway* (1971), and *Extension of a Man* (1973), as well as the soundtrack *Come Back Charleston Blue* (1972). The previously unreleased material includes studio recordings from the late 1960s through the mid-1970s and live recordings from 1971 at The Bitter End in New York City.
