Carlos Lyra's album "Saravá!" was originally released in 1969 in Mexico by RCA Victor. Lyra was invited by RCA Mexico to record the album and wrote nine of the eleven compositions. The album features exclusively Mexican musicians, whose empathy for bossa nova is noted. The songs were given different titles in Spanish compared to their original Portuguese names. The 2001 reissue marked the first time the album was released in Brazil.
The album is considered a sweet and mellow listen. Liner notes detail that Mexico City had become a hub for Brazilian musicians at the time. Lyra found work in Mexico writing jingles, working as an announcer, and writing film soundtracks.

Due to the political climate in Brazil, many artists migrated to Mexico, turning Mexico City into an unofficial capital of Brazil.
