About

Adventures in Paradise is the third studio album by Minnie Riperton, released in May 1975 by Epic Records. Following the success of her previous album *Perfect Angel* and the hit single "Lovin' You," Epic Records wanted a quick follow-up. Due to Stevie Wonder's unavailability, Stewart Levine co-produced the album with Riperton and her husband, Richard Rudolph. The album showcases a mellow soul-jazz tone, incorporating elements of funk. It was available in both quadraphonic and stereo formats. The album reached No. 18 on the Billboard 200 and No. 5 on the Top Soul Albums chart. The cover features Minnie Riperton sitting next to a lion, and during a promotional photoshoot with a different lion, the animal lunged at her, but the tamer subdued it. It was around this time that Riperton discovered she had breast cancer.

Personnel

Significance

Adventures in Paradise is considered a lush and sensuous album that showcases Riperton's jazz-informed melding of R&B, funk, adult pop, and soft rock. It reflected her maturity as an artist. While the album achieved moderate commercial success, it didn't reach the heights of *Perfect Angel*. Some believe this was because fans expected another song like "Lovin' You" and were surprised by the album's understated and genre-blending sound.

During a promotional photoshoot with a lion for the album, the lion lunged at Minnie Riperton, requiring the animal's tamer to quickly subdue it.
