About

Save Rock and Roll is the fifth studio album by American rock band Fall Out Boy, released on April 12, 2013, by Island Records. The album combines rock, pop, and R&B styles and features guest vocals from Foxes, Big Sean, Courtney Love, and Elton John. The lyrics address themes of growing up, love, heartbreak, and nostalgia.

Recording Info

The album was recorded from October 2012 to March 2013 at Rubyred Recordings in Santa Monica, California. It was produced by Butch Walker and Fall Out Boy, marking a departure from their longtime producer Neal Avron.

Significance

Save Rock and Roll was Fall Out Boy's first album in five years and represented a significant reinvention of their sound. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. It received generally positive reviews, with critics praising the band's progression and experimentation, though some were hesitant to call it a pure rock record. The album is considered a critical and commercial success, revitalizing Fall Out Boy's career. The album's cover art, featuring a photo of a punk and a monk holding hands, symbolizes the album's theme of old and new clashing. The band created music videos for every song on the album, compiling them into a short film called The Young Blood Chronicles.

The album title was inspired by a sarcastic remark from Pete Wentz.
